Mi-Sa Yang


Violinist of Korean origin, Mi-Sa Yang was born and grew up in Osaka, Japan. She studied at the Music Conservatory of Paris (CNSMDP), first completing a Concert Violinist / Soloist postgraduate program, under the supervision of Olivier CHARLIER and Jean-Jacques KANTOROW, then joining the school’s Chamber Music Class.

Mi-Sa has won prizes and awards in various international competitions. She received the 1st Prize at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists in 2000 and was awarded the 3rd Prize and the Special Jury Prize at the Sendai International Music Competition in 2001. Mi-Sa also won the 1st Prize in trio (piano, violin and cello) at the 55th edition of Barcelona’s Maria Canals International Music Competition in 2009.

Since her orchestral debut performance at the age of 12 in Japan, Mi-Sa has had the opportunity to perform with many prestigious ensembles such as Suk Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, Century Orchestra Osaka, etc. She also seeks to cultivate her talent as a chamber musician.

In 2018, she performed Scottish Fantasy in E-flat major, Op. 46 by Bruch in a concerto delivered with Sinfonia Varsovia during the Crazy Days Festival held in Nantes, Yekaterinburg and Japan. She also performed recitals with pianist Jonas Vitaud.

She co-founded the Les Esprits piano trio with Adam Laloum and Victor Julien-Laferrière. They performed at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Klavier-Festival-Ruhr, the Crazy Days of Nantes, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festspiele, Théâtre d’Arras, Théâtre de la Criée in Marseille, at Radio France during the “Lettres Intimes” show by Stéphane Goldet, Théâtre de Saint Nazaire, at the Soirées Musicales of Tours, at the Menton Festival and at the Nuits Musicales of Morbihan.

She is a member of the Ardeo Quartet since 2014. The quartet was nominated as an ECHO Rising Star on the same year and has already performed in the major European concert halls: the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Kölner Philharmonie. In 2018, the Ardeo Quartet also performed at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord and at Musikfest Bremen. The Goldberg Variations (transcription for string quartet by François Meïmoun) was released in May 2018 by IBSclassical.

Both albums released by Les Esprits Trio in 2014 and 2017 (Mirare) have received praise from the critics. In January 2019, Mi-Sa Yang released an album devoted to Schubert (Sony Music) and, later, an album devoted to the Mozart sonatas, in duet with pianist Jonas Vitaud.
