Deauville and horses are inseparable, like Deauville and the sea. It is not by chance that the town was built between the beach and the racecourse. Under the impetus of the visionary Duke of Morny, founder of Deauville, the role of horses was essential since the beginning: in 1863, on the beach transformed in gallop track for the time of a tide, the very first equestrian race of Deauville started… Later, the Deauville-La Touques racecourse was built, even before the church of Saint Augustin. Since 1865, horse races started to be organized here. In 1928 the opening of the Clairefontaine racecourse strengthened the already prestigious reputation of Deauville in the equestrian world.

Deauville currently shines in the racing and equestrian worlds through extraordinary facilities and an interesting calendar of events. Organizing horse races for seven months in the year, but also thoroughbred horse auctions, world polo championships, jumping, dressage, harness races and horseball competitions, Deauville is now legitimately considered an international racing and equestrian sport showcase.
