EUGENE VILLETTE

Photographe

The first photographer of Deauville

Eugène Villette was born on November 13, 1826 in Meung-sur-Loire (Loiret) and died on October 22, 1895 in Deauville. This excellent Parisian portraitist opened a photographic studio in Deauville in the 1860s. His 35 years in Deauville resulted in the first inventory in images of all the villas and new buildings in the town. Winner of numerous prizes and medals in national and international exhibitions, his passion for the evolution of photographic and laboratory techniques made him a representative photographer of his generation, like Carjat, Disdéri or Nadar.
