"The favorite village of the French", a source of tourist inspiration

"The Favorite Village of the French", broadcast on France 3 in the first part of the evening at the beginning of the summer, aims to show the heritage beauty of France through an interregional competition. The principle: 14 villages, each representing a region of France, are selected, then submitted to the public's choice via mini-reports posted on the show's website. A few weeks after the vote closes, the day the program airs, viewers then discover the ranking of the villages.

Each year since its creation in 2012, the program has collected significant audience scores, demonstrating the enthusiasm of the French for heritage, architectural preservation and enhancement, the French art-de-vivre, authenticity. As reality goes beyond fiction, after each broadcast, the winning and nominated villages see the impact of the program on their tourist attractiveness.

Villerville, the village on the cliff by the sea

Villerville, a town of nearly 600 inhabitants, is built on the cliffs of the Black Rocks by the sea. Originally a fishing village, the village developed rapidly during the 1962th century with the "seaside revolution". arrival of the railway and the opening of a coastal road along the Côte Fleurie. Bordered by pretty tall, narrow houses and endowed with a historic XNUMXth century Romanesque-Gothic church and a pleasant park descending from the top of the cliff to the beach, the village then becomes a landmark for artists: Charles Mozin, Ulysses Butin, Gabriel Fauré, Charles Gounod, Fernand Ledoux, among others, settled here. The director Henri Verneuil even put his camera there in XNUMX to shoot his essential film "A monkey in winter" with Jean Gabin and Jean-Paul Belmondo. Villerville continues to bring this artistic aura to life by welcoming new urban art talents every year during its "Ville'Art'Ville" festival and young actors to produce "Un Festival à Villerville".

Already awarded "Village Fleuri", Villerville was also in 2018 the first village of Calvados to obtain the label "Village of character", which rewards picturesque villages, emblematic of their territory by their architectural and environmental riches. Never two without three, with "The Favorite Village of the French", Villerville hopes to display a third plaque at the entrance to his village and once again provide a spotlight on the remarkable Norman heritage, like Saint-Vaast- la-Hougue, elected "The Favorite Village of the French" in 2019.
