The City of Deauville supports Pierre-Louis Attwell, Maxime Bensa and their project "Vogue avec un Crohn"

On November 7, Pierre-Louis Attwell and Maxime Bensa - co-skipper - took the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre, the flagship race of the 2021 season, the longest and most demanding for the two skippers, i.e. 4600 nautical miles at travel aboard their Class40. Arriving in 25th position in the category, the duo will have taken 23 days 11 hours 18 minutes and 20 seconds to cover 5 miles from Le Havre!

Their boat "Vogue with a Crohn" wears the colors of Deauville for the boating season. As it does in the cultural field with its artistic residencies, the City of Deauville is continuing its support program for young athletes.

Pierre-Louis Attwell is, like Eric Delamare (supported by the City of Deauville in his early days), strongly attached to Deauville. It was in 2016 on the quays of the Peninsula from which the Solitaire du Figaro started that year that Pierre-Louis Attwell decided to become a sailor.
As a child, he discovered sailing with his father on the family boat. He practiced dinghy sailing for ten years at the municipal sailing school of Dives-sur-mer, then became an instructor. In 2013, he joined the sports section of the Cercle Nautique de Honfleur where he discovered regatta and entered the national J80 circuit. In 2015, he participated in the creation of the Honfleur sailing school. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16, Pierre-Louis is sailing under the colors of “Vogue avec un Crohn” which allows him to tell the whole world that “even if you are sick, anything is possible! ". After a first year on the Figaro circuit in 2018, a season in the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2019, Pierre-Louis dreams of the Route du Rhum in 2022. He would be the first sailor suffering from Crohn's disease to cross the Atlantic alone.

Pierre-Louis Attwell is sailing with Maxime Bensa, co-skipper. He too was rocked by family cruises from an early age. He then knows - like Pierre-Louis - the J80 circuit and then other supports. He represented Normandy for several years at the French Espoir Championships and on the Tour de France sailing circuit where he discovered ocean racing. He has been a trainer at the Deauville Yacht Club for several years.

During the first years following my diagnosis, I remained very modest about my disease. However, we end up isolating ourselves in silence and living with the disease while hiding it becomes very difficult. Starting the "Vogue with a Crohn's" project was one of the most beneficial things I could do for myself. I went from a period when I didn't tell anyone about my illness to a period when I spoke openly about it in front of several hundred people! Today I am pleased to come and testify about my adventure and my daily life as a patient. Communicating and raising awareness about Crohn's disease among the general public has become my main goal and I realize a dream of being able to do so through my sports projects.

“Vogue with a Crohn” has three goals, which will animate them throughout the 2022 season:
- Raise awareness among the general public about Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis
- Encourage patients to accept their illness, to come out of their silence and to challenge themselves.
- Prove that even if you are sick, anything is possible.

They will be at the start of four offshore races

- 1000 milles des Sables, a 1 mile loop starting and finishing in Les Sables d'Olonne and which allows you to train and qualify for La Route du Rhum 000 - Departure on April 2022, 10
- Nomandy Channel Race, double-handed race in the championship, the Normandy Channel Race is one of the unmissable events on the Class40 calendar - Departure on May 15, 2022
- MICI Sailing Tour A tour of France to raise awareness of IBD
- Route du Rhum, the mythical solo transatlantic sailing race, run every four years, between Saint-Malo and Guadeloupe - Departure on November 6, 2022

Since its birth, Deauville has had sea legs. For several years now, it has been aiming to forge a reputation as a benchmark maritime and sporting destination on the West-Channel coastline. A home port and stopover for sailors from around the world.
By re-empowering the entire nautical district of the Presqu'île, it has taken a new step and turned its face even more resolutely towards the sea. After having developed the docks around the Morny Basin and reconfigured the 6 hectares that surround it, in July, the City will inaugurate the latest nautical facilities: the belvederes - a veritable gateway to the sea - the premises of the Deauville Yacht Club, the harbor master's office and the sailing school.
To develop the practice of water sports in the local fabric, the territory benefits from a sports section which offers a training continuum combining dinghy sailing and in-house sailing from middle school to high school. Deauville's support for Pierre-Louis Attwell, Maxime Bensa and their project is part of this continuity of supporting a new generation of sailors.

In return for its financial contribution, Vogue's engagement with a Crohn takes several forms:
- His boat will wear the colors of Deauville.
- In contact with Deauville, he will share his experience on Deauville's sites and social networks.
- He is more particularly committed to organizing exchanges with schoolchildren from Deauville: the youngest from the Fracasse school, young graduates from the Deauville Yacht club and more particularly with young high school students who are members of the UNSS sailing and future pupils of the sailing school sports section of the André Maurois high school / college. The first meeting will take place when Pierre-Louis Attwell and Maxime Bensa return on June 9 at the Deauville Yacht Club.
