Story 5: See an equestrian competition
Jumping at the Longines-Deauville International Horse PoleSandrine Boyer-Engel

The history of Deauville, since the creation of the resort under the Second Empire,
is so closely linked to the horse that the city is today
naturally considered as the equestrian capital of France.

With horse races organized for six months of the year,
thoroughbred auctions, a world polo championship,
show jumping, dressage, driving and horseball competitions,
Deauville legitimately acts as an international showcase for equestrian sports.

In August and for three weeks, the Barrier Deauville Polo Cup invades the polo grounds of the Deauville-La Touques racecourse. On the program, four tournaments punctuate this month of polo: the Ladies Polo Cup (12/16 goals), the Bronze Cup (6/8 goals), the Silver Cup (14/16 goals) and of course the legendary Gold Cup (14/16 goals), whose final is scheduled at the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix in Deauville, the last weekend of August. The matches are commented and explained, often with a lot of humor. The players are not stingy with meetings with the public; they often have beach polo matches on the beach and like to parade around town in good weather. As for riding, the Deauville polo school teaches this Argentinian sport all year round in the form of initiations for beginners, group and private lessons for experienced riders and even private lessons to learn with the family.
