Françoise Sagan

Tired of the crowds in Saint Tropez, Françoise Sagan rented Le Manoir du Breuil in Equemauville, between Honfleur and Deauville, in July 1959. She frequented the gaming tables at the Casino de Deauville, gambled passionately and on the night of August 7-8, 1959, won 8 million francs. With this sum, she bought the manor house and became the owner of "... what was to be and remains my only possession on earth: a house still in disrepair, twelve kilometers from Deauville. From that lucky day onwards, Deauville and Françoise Sagan adopted each other, with a passion for gambling and horse racing, a taste for parties shared with friends and the pleasure of dreaming on Deauville's vast beach, whatever the season.
