Barlen Pyamootoo

Barlen Pyamootoo was born in 1960 in Mauritius. His family fled the island, the ruined sugar mills and unemployment in 1976. He went to Strasbourg where he taught literature until 1993. Since 1994, he lives between Paris and Trou-d'eau-douce (Mauritius). He adapted and directed Benares for the cinema in 2006: it is the first Mauritian film, interpreted by Mauritian actors and shot in Creole.
At Editions de l'Olivier, he published Benares (1999), Le Tour de Babylone (2002), Salogi's (2008).
