She is not the type to roll her shoulders on the pontoons and boast that she is one of the very few female sailors on the Figaro circuit. Claire, 37 years old, cultivates a good spirit with her training buddies from the Pôle Finistère Course au Large. "We exchange a lot with each other, there's more to gain than fighting. An all-Olympic attitude forged by his selection in match racing at the 2012 London Olympics.
This experience was the culmination of a collective project that began ten years earlier, and it has created a strong bond of friendship with her teammates. The girlfriends are already the banner under which Claire has been involved in the competition since high school. She practiced handball, but the virus insidiously infiltrated her from her first trips on her uncle's boat affiliated with the Courseulles-sur-Mer club. She resisted the family apprenticeship of sailing under the guidance of her father, in the company of her cousin. "We were yelled at but we both continued!"
A revelation that she honed on instinct, making her follow an atypical path in the world of ocean racing. "I arrived at the Olympics without ever having followed the dinghy route, only carried by our world number one results in match racing." A sesame for the rather closed club of solo sailors. A desire to go solo, which has been practiced recently for an extra adrenaline rush and for the personal challenge. A novice in the 2013 edition, Claire admits with a burst of laughter that she has not yet mastered all the tempos of this mythical race, a scouting ground for the best ocean racing skippers. With confidence, although she sometimes feels she lacks it, the sailor manages her ocean racing projects as a young entrepreneur. "I needed a structure to manage the financing and the different partners."
In many ways, competition invades Claire's life. She admires the "boy skippers" who tinker and enthusiastically display their enthusiasm for technology. Claire decompresses once on land, forgetting the rhythm of "boat, work, sleep." With a pint of wine, the creation of lamps made of recycled materials or flea markets, she shakes up the archetype of the racing sailor.
