Exhibition: Van Dongen - "Deauville suited me like a glove"
From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. / 14:00 p.m. to 17:00 p.m.
A plaque affixed to Les Planches de Deauville reminds us: "From 1913 to 1963, the painter Kees Van Dongen (1877-1968) painted, drew and animated the summers of Deauville for 50 years." This loyalty of the artist makes the object in 2022 of an exhibition of
his works in connection with Deauville.
Painted portraits of personalities frequenting Deauville, beach scenes, horse races, table games, evenings at the casino and crazy nights dancing to jazz or tango tunes ... show how the artist finds in the atmosphere of Deauville, his Favorite pictorial subjects, emblematic of the Roaring Twenties. A privileged witness to the society of his time, Van Dongen spices up his works with a sly, casual, ironic spirit.
The artist's original works brought together for this unique exhibition are enriched with significant iconographic material: photographs, caricatures, books and publications illustrating Van Dongen's presence in Deauville.
Open Tuesday to Sunday.
