In connection with the exhibition "The impressionist sketch, touching nature with power or lightness" at the Galerie des Maîtres, Alain Tapié looks back on the creation of this incredible collection on deposit with the Franciscans. Created in 1992 at the initiative of the Normandy Regional Council and private partners, the collection, rich in 185 works, is today one of the main ambassadors of Norman painting around the world. Bringing together paintings by Claude Monet, Eugène Boudin and Auguste Renoir, the Peindre en Normandie collection honors the region as a land of welcome and happiness for these outdoor artists.

Holder of a doctorate in History, Alain Tapié was appointed curator and director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen in 1984. In 2003, he took over the management of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lille and the Hospice Comtesse, a position he held until 2012. He has been in charge of the scientific management of the Peindre en Normandie collection since its creation in 1992.
