Sailing: Cowes-Deauville

This famous TransManche has existed for over 55 years. English and French boats will compete for over 100 miles and at night (and often in fog). Departure from Cowes on the Isle of Wight on Friday May 25 at noon and arrival in Deauville in the early morning from 5 am.

Organized jointly by the Royal Southern Yacht Club, the Royal London Yacht Club and the Deauville Yacht Club, with the support of the City of Deauville, this race has brought together each year since 1962 some fifty British and French crews. Distributed on boats of four categories - IRC, Osiris, Class Figaro 1 and Sailing and motor - the crews sail and challenge each other for a weekend between the ports of Cowes, located on the Isle of Wight, and Deauville . The departure of this regatta is traditionally given on Friday evening. At the end of a 100-mile cross-Channel that lasts between sixteen and twenty-four hours, the navigators dock in the municipal port of Deauville in the day of Saturday. The official awards ceremony takes place on Sunday morning within the grounds of the Deauville Yacht Club.

From the success and the conviviality of these meetings was born the twinning between the cities of Cowes and Deauville two years later in 1964. Each year, the fanfare of the Isle of Wight also makes it a point of honor to come to Deauville on July 14 to accompany the festivities linked to the French National Day with music.

This weekend will be all the more exceptional because on Saturday 28 at 17 p.m. the inauguration of the new Deauville Yacht Club will take place!
