The Gilles
the Carnival troupe

 

The Gille is a famous character of the carnival of Binche, Belgium. The troupe will parade along the streets of Villers-sur-Mer to bright and enchant them.
36 Gilles and 20 farmers will be there during the weekend to contribute to the Carnival atmosphere and celebrate the scallop season.   

Before the parade, the traditional filling of Gilles' coat with straw will be open to the public! 

 

On Sunday, parades at 11 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm

Les Grands Bleus
parade of stilt walkers

 

These colourful stilt walkers have a strong visual impact. They welcome the public as if they were coming back from a long journey. 

They sing the tune to Bella Ciao to describe the beauty of mermaids and the greatness of captains. It reminds a commedia dell'arte.

 

On Saturday, parades at 12:15 pm, 3:15 pm and on Sunday at 10:30 am, 2 pm and 4 pm.

Piratoria

These three filibusters are looking for their crew. To attract the pretenders to this epic poem, they play percussions, split flames to set the sky on fire and make their torches and sabres twirl...

Pock-Pock Blues
funk/jazz fanfare

 

Small size, big volume! These three musicians show a great sound presence on the stage and involve the public in their universe. 
Their look is a clear reference to the Blues Brothers and the soul music, their repertoire also explores other styles like jazz, funk, rumba, pop and film music. 

 

On Sunday, parades at 11:30 am (official parade), 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm

The Dromaludaires
humoristic fanfare

 

The "dromaludaire” is an imaginary animal belonging to the family of camelids, usually called "dromadaire à lunettes" (dromedary with glasses) or "chalumeau à une bosse" (camelid with one hump).

It also means funny, strange and playful musician with enough breath to blow into his pipe. 

This fanfare of acoustic musicians will delight both children and adults with a great repertoire and much energy.
