Ronan Masson

Artist

Guest of the 2021 L'Appel du Large festival

Ronan Masson (born in 1974) is an artist-designer, graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Nantes. At the end of his studies, he produced a series of scenographies for festivals of the underground music scene. These devices, each time designed as unique pieces, are worked mainly in metal, a kind of installations pushing the limits of materials to the extreme, creating real tensions in the space. Metal therefore becomes the reference material for the artist, who simultaneously explores several territories: from sculpture to furniture or jewelry design, all of his pieces are always designed as unique or in limited series. The artist plays on scales and symbols, from the sculpture we put to the one we wear, each piece refers to the other in mirror, ready-mades from a poetic and quirky universe.

As part of the L'Appel du Large festival which will take place from July 2 to 4, 2021, Ronan Masson presents an installation and a performative work on the port of Deauville entitled "Raft-Landscape". A form drifts in the port, its facets reflecting clouds, sky and silhouettes. The Raft-Landscape is a mirrored boat which triangulates from one bank to the other, disappearing on the surface of the water. Its reflective surfaces refer to the viewers of the landscape images, its sliding is accompanied by sounds collected in nature and reworked live. More information on L'Appel du Large here.
