Elsa Lefebvre

Artist

Guest of the 2021 L'Appel du Large festival

Born in 1979, Elsa Lefebvre lives and works in Paris. After studying Cinema and Fashion, she joined the Villa Arson (Beaux-Art de Nice) from which she graduated in 2012. Ritual is her main engine to stage the relationship with oneself, with one's intimacy and with the world. At the crossroads of the ordinary and the sensitive, she gives birth to a dreamlike world through installation and performance. It uses the process of enchantment specific to the circus: fascinating and frightening at the same time to create a multiple reaction of visions and emotions in the spectator. Throughout his creations, his tragicomic burlesque universe takes shape with the creation of totemic sculptures, phantasmagorical images and hybrid bestiary drawings. Both symbolically and autobiographically, Elsa Lefebvre is inspired by the living matter that is human.

As part of the L'Appel du Large festival which will take place from July 2 to 4, 2021, Elsa Lefebvre presents The Garden of Delirium, an installation-performance within a Deauville beach infrastructure inspired by the Jardin des Délices and the fairground world. It invites the public to travel in its internal cosmogonies such as Ulysses in The Odyssey. The seaside area becomes an island where the horizon turns into a fantastic quest. The spectator navigates in the parallel worlds of the most phantasmagoric paintings of the History of Art, guided by the fairground oracle, this imaginary and ghostly mental space.
