Cultural reality game "Cryptors in the City" premieres at Deauville
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days on September 21 and 22, 2024, the City of Deauville is hosting a preview of the innovative "Cryptors in the City" concept, a hunting and collecting game for smartphones offering a new way of approaching history and heritage.
Cryptors in the City offers a (re)discovery of culture through an immersive, educational and entertaining digital experience, inviting visitors to wander through the heart of a city. Street art, heritage, artificial intelligence, video games, technology and history are intelligently combined in a public space that becomes both a playground and a "new generation" guided tour.
The launch of the mobile app in Deauville, directly in line with the bold theme of this 41st edition of the European Heritage Days, focused on "Heritage of routes, networks and connections, and maritime heritage", opens up exciting prospects for understanding culture in the 21st century.
Deauville was immediately seduced by Cryptors in the City, an intelligent and creative concept. It is proud to be its first living space, offering discreet hiding places for its characters. They are sure to bring a new approach to history, arousing curiosity and motivating knowledge of Deauville's heritage. An exciting mix of fun and innovation, accessible to all!
What does it involve?
Cryptors in the City is a hunting and collecting game whose aim is to find the Cryptors, modern replicas of men and women who have escaped from space-time in the form of street artworks hidden in public spaces. These unique works, largely inspired by the Pixel Art of 1980s video games and street art and signed by artist Mazu, represent emblematic figures from French history and the local heritage in which they are found.
After finding them and flashing them directly within the application, these "Cryptors" open up a discussion with users about significant moments in their lives and anecdotes about the place where they are located.
At the end of each experience, a timed quiz is offered to test knowledge and unlock the character's artificial intelligence, enabling users to bring back a digital souvenir and continue their conversation with history.
For Deauville, 10 Street Art works featuring emblematic characters from Deauville's history have been installed.

- Capture these characters and collect them.
- Ask them questions and (re)discover their story(s).
