THE NORMANDY IMPRESSIONIST FESTIVAL
450 events, 145 exhibitions, 104 festive events, 83 live performances....
Organized from April 16 to September 26, the third edition of the Normandie Impressionniste Festival will follow in the footsteps of the previous two editions, which attracted 1.8 million visitors. This event, initiated by Laurent Fabius and Pierre Bergé, both at the origin of the project, takes on a particular importance this year. In 2010 and 2013, the Festival had already irrigated the entire territory of Normandy and, in a way, anticipated the new regional map.
Today, it is the first event of this scale organized in the new Normandy region.
This bouquet of cultural activities, exhibitions, live performances, dance, operas, guinguettes, cinema, symposiums, will illustrate the cultural vitality of Normandy in France and abroad.
The theme chosen for 2016 is oriented towards impressionism in portraits. Portraits in the classical sense of the term, but also in a more contemporary interpretation.
The aim is to place the human being at the heart of the Festival: a portrait of an era and of 19th century society, its leisure activities, its women, its children, its artists, the Festival also takes a close interest in contemporary variations such as the selfie. It questions the representation of oneself and others, its usefulness, its message, its meaning, 140 years later.
