THE EXHIBITIONS OF OFF
The "Off" of Planche (s) Contact hosts each year fifteen photographic exhibitions produced by photographers living part of the year in Deauville, or by collectives and associations of photography enthusiasts. Deauville and its components remain the central theme of this section, supported by photographers who know the city and its atmosphere very well. The exhibitions take place in private places, galleries, hotels ... from October 21 to November 26.

Gerard Staron
Sea bathing
Armed with his Polaroid, Gérard Staron has been walking the Normandy and Picardy beaches since 2013. His series evokes a distant time when the sea, barely accessible, made you dream. A time when the coastline was still relatively pristine and the seaside similar to that described in light and reflections by the Impressionists. What could be more natural than using old technologies to revive the past. The diffusion of light through old devices, the printing of film with chemistry that has been outdated for several years, everything suggests the image more than it shows it. It gives pride of place to our imagination.

EXHIBITION LOCATION: ARTHUS-BERTRAND JEWELERY
105 EUGENE COLAS STREET. Every day from 10:30 a.m. to 13 p.m. and from 15 p.m. to 19 p.m.

The sea, for those who dream
When no one looks at her
The sea is no longer the sea,
She is who we are
When no one sees us.
She has other fish,
Other waves too.

It's the sea for the sea
And for those who dream of it
As I do here.

Expired-Normandy
This photographic series is the perception of a daily newspaper out of season. It is constructed as a representation of calm, absence and loneliness.
Victor Rival-Garcia chose the silver medium to play on the temporality of the images. All the films and papers used for this series are more or less expired, some for more than 30 years. The interest is to capture images on which the viewer has no time mark. This expiration date exceeded gives a particular grain to his shots. The paper used for the original prints, also outdated for several years, gives rise to contrasts which do not necessarily correspond to the grades chosen. This series on the seaside draws a parallel between the subject and the medium, between the grain of the film and the grain of sand.

Dialogues
Established as a freelance photographer in London since 2004, Sonia Fitoussi is passionate about art in all its forms. Art, which she does not stop (re) discovering in museums or the art which is offered to her gaze in various forms in the street, and which nourishes her passion for photography. She enjoys watching and photographing the reactions of passers-by in front of the works that invest the city of Deauville during her exhibitions. Interaction or indifference create a playful dialogue between reality and artistic representation. "Nothing gives me more pleasure than capturing this authentic moment when a scene of ordinary life meets a work and responds to it, in a humorous or poetic way".

EXHIBITION PLACE: DEAUVILLE TOURISME
Quai de l'Impératrice Eugénie. Open every day from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. Monday to Saturday, then every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 13 p.m. and from 14 p.m. to 17 p.m.

Sandstorm in Heaven
On the boards, under a cobalt sky, see the one that the sailors are waiting for. At first very malicious by untying the buns and lifting the light dresses, then terrifying by raising the beach and inexorably pushing all onlookers to the exodus. We crossed paths with him and him this day. I even, for a moment, managed to capture it.

Swim in the azure ... Dive into the imaginary wave ...
By offering us an unexpected poetry, the swimming pool invites us to plunge into a permanent imagination. Born of a wave, the swimming pool becomes a seashell, snowy peaks, animal, monumental sculpture ... Through its mysterious reflections, open to the outside, vibrant with light, every hour, every minute, it provokes the gaze. It is this metamorphosis that Dominik Rimbault tried to capture.

Water from there
The water from where she was born rocked her childhood. The sea nourished in it a certain reverie and the light sharpened its eye. She looked and stared at the picture long before taking the photograph. What she likes is to see beyond what is visible, to cross the image and see what she hides. Aquatic reflections take on a whole new meaning.

EXHIBITION LOCATION: HOTEL CONTINENTAL
Open every day, 14 p.m.> 20 p.m.

A 33-year-old photographer, Julien Touchard has been passionate about photography for a few years. He closely follows the evolution of the artist JR and his team, via the rise and success of their concept Inside Out. Taking up in Deauville this photographic protocol which inspires him so much, Julien Touchard offers an original outdoor installation. For the occasion, around thirty Deauvillais traders lent themselves to the game. Their large black and white portraits adorn the facades of the new Presqu'ile district.

Tandem
By dint of living together, in a couple, each ends up taking little things from the other, little by little, without anyone noticing. Manuel Guyon offers a portrait of Deauville through his couples so in love, that they ended up being only two identical images.

Fashion © Jean-Pierre Bilhaut Coco Chanel, inspiration from Deauville

Objective Image 14
Everything in Deauville could only inspire Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel said that "fashion is not something that exists only in clothing. Fashion is in the air, carried by the wind. We can guess it. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. "
In love with modernism and freedom, Deauville gave Coco Chanel its light and its reflections of wet sand. The young designer saw the sailors moving against the winds and in comfortable fabrics and functional cuts. She wanted to free the bathers with constrained bodies. Tennis players and golfers inspire comfortable and elegant clothing. Elegance still in the world of racing and Polo which suggest new materials. She makes the art of living on vacation a style that goes beyond that of fashion.
André Mangion, Jean-Peirre Bilhaut and Henri Carabajal, three photographers from the Objectif Image 14 collective, have chosen to rediscover this imagination inspired by the city of boards, through three different perspectives and techniques brought together in the blink of an eye from Coco.

The life in blue

The beach and the adjacent bathing huts are essential places for who comes to visit Deauville. Even before the construction of the Pompeian baths, inaugurated in 1924, hydrotherapy establishments were already found in Deauville. The latter appeared from 1860, when Deauville began to emerge from the ground. Jean-François Baulon has chosen to produce a series using a photographic technique dating from this period and called "cyanotypy". This technique, which was widely used by pictorial photographers, is based on the use of ferric salts, giving a final image with bluish hues. A way to plunge back into the past.
