Gallop races include competitions with and without obstacles, the latter known as flat races. The Touques racecourse hosts most of these races during the year, thus gaining the “four season hippodrome” nickname. Its calendar includes over forty days exclusively dedicated to flat races, highlighting thoroughbred horses’ speed abilities. The Touques was the first racecourse, in 2003, to include a sand-fibre track, hosting races in winter, when the Normand fields are covered by snow. The turf track is used again when the nice season comes.

A racing simulator, among other things, is available to give you the opportunity to live the race as if you were a jockey and some coachs will introduce you to racecourse betting. Horse carrousel, poney strolls, small horse games are also available…

The Deauville - La Touques hippodrome is uniquely positioned among French racecourses, as it includes the largest training centre for race horses in Europe. It welcomes up to 300 horses all over the year and the amount of horses hosted in livery stables is twofold in August. It is equipped with stables specifically conceived for horses under training. In terms of facilities, several training tracks are used. For flat races:
- three 2,000 m sand tracks, one for trotting and two for canter;
- one 2,000 m turf track with an area of 5 hectares. For jumping races:
- a canter track equipped with mobile hedges;
- a steeple track.

A sand-fibre track was opened in June 2003 and is currently used for competitions and training. It is used to host all gallop races in winter and to preserve the turf track during summer competitions. “France Galop” institution has opted for an oiled sand-fibre surface (the Viscoride) whose main characteristics are uniformity of the track, frost resistance (up to certain temperatures), extremely low splashes and no need for irrigation, mainly appreciated in times of drought…
