Bathing water quality

Constant monitoring

S. Boyer-Engel

Water quality is a real issue for seaside resorts. That's why the inDeauville coastline is the focus of all our attention, so that bathers can enjoy it in complete peace of mind. In 2009, the Communauté de Communes Cœur Côte Fleurie was the first local authority in Basse-Normandie to be awarded the Certification France label for its bathing water management, which has since been renewed. In addition to the monitoring carried out by the Agence Régionale de la Santé (ARS), the Community has set up its own quality measurement system.

With its new audit carried out in April 2022, Bureau Veritas was able to certify that there were no deviations from the standards, enabling the local authority to retain its label for the next three years.

Nine beaches are concerned: rue Jean Moulin and place Jean Mermoz in Villers-sur-Mer, rue Laforge and hameau Goblin in Blonville-sur-Mer, Bénerville-sur-Mer, Tourgéville, Deauville, Trouville-sur-Mer, rue des Bains and place des Graves in Villerville.

The controls focus on the microbiological quality of the water. From the end of May to the beginning of September, 20 samples per beach, financed by the intermunicipality, are taken and analyzed to assess the quantity of two bacteria: enterococci and Escherichia Coli.

Inspections are carried out in two ways: on the one hand, VEOLIA eau, delegated by the Communauté de Communes Cœur Côte FleurieOn the one hand, VEOLIA eau, delegated by the Communauté Communautaire Cœur Côte Fleurie, checks the sewage system, carries out sampling and analysis, monitors the quality of outfalls and watercourses discharging into the sea, and monitors the flow of the Seine. At the same time, ARS follows its own schedule and takes samples from bathing areas, leading to the classification of our beaches. Once all the data has been pooled, a bulletin is published by the ARS and sent to the town halls, which are responsible for distributing it and posting it near bathing areas. You can consult the results at the first-aid post or on the Communauté de Communes Cœur Côte Fleurie website.
