Bathing water quality

Permanent monitoring

S. Boyer-Engel

Water quality is a real issue for seaside areas. Therefore, the coastline of Deauville is the object of every attention so that bathers can enjoy it in complete serenity. In 2009, the Coeur Côte Fleurie Community of Municipalities was the first community in Lower Normandy to be awarded the Certification France label for its management of bathing water, which has since been renewed. It has also implemented its own quality measurement system in addition to the surveillance of the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

With its new audit conducted in April 2022, Bureau Veritas was able to certify that there were no deviations from the standard and allowed the local authority to keep its label for the next three years.

Nine beaches are concerned: rue Jean Moulin and place Jean Mermoz in Villers-sur-Mer, rue Laforge and hamlet Goblin in Blonville-sur-Mer, Bénerville-sur-Mer, Tourgéville, Deauville, Trouville-sur-Mer, rue des Bains and place des Graves in Villerville.

The controls focus on the microbiological quality of the water. From the end of May to the beginning of September, 20 samples per beach, financed by the intermunicipality, are taken and analyzed to evaluate the quantity of two bacteria: enterococci and Escherichia Coli.

The controls are carried out in two ways: on the one hand, VEOLIA water, the delegate of the Community of Communes Coeur Côte FleurieOn the one hand, VEOLIA eau, the delegate of the Communauté Communautaire Cœur Côte Fleurie, checks the sewerage system, takes samples and analyses, controls the quality of the outfalls and waterways discharging into the sea and monitors the flow of the Seine. At the same time, the ARS follows its own schedule and takes samples from bathing areas, which results in the classification of our beaches. Once all the data is pooled, a bulletin is published by the ARS and transmitted to the town halls which are in charge of distributing it and posting it near the bathing areas. You can consult the results at the first-aid station and on the Community of Communes Coeur Côte Fleurie website.
