The Morny square
The historical heart of the city center, Place Morny is at the crossroads of the 8 axes that structure the urban plan of Deauville designed by the Parisian architect Desle-François Breney at the time of its creation. Rue Désiré le Hoc leads from the train station to the casino, Rue Gambetta leads to the racetrack and the opposite direction to the docks. Oliffe Street is oriented towards the waterfront. It is also the heart of Deauville with an important concentration of shops and cafés, particularly lively on market days. A tradition since 1881.
The fountain has existed on this site since 1896, although it was replaced after the Second World War by a more modern version.
The statue of the founder of the city, the Duke of Morny. Initially made of bronze and monumental, it only remained in place for five years (1865>1870) because it was symbolic of the old regime. Melted down by the Germans during the Second World War, it was replaced by the new version currently in place in 1955.
