Villers-sur-mer - Esplanade Jean Mermoz - July 7, 2019

This great Nordic walking event-day, celebrated for the first time in 2014, takes place in the Côte Fleurie and is organized by the Les Normandiques association on the beaches of Villers-sur-mer, Bénerville-sur-mer, Blonville-sur-mer, Tourgéville and Deauville.

The 6th edition of Normandique takes place in Villers-sur-mer. The sand-only course is open to everybody, both beginners and experienced athletes. The Normandique’s goal is to transmit the values of Nordic walking and initiate beginners and inexperienced participants on how to use sticks and correctly position feet. Beginners can try to learn these unique techniques in the morning during the non-timed 7-km "nature-health-leisure” Nordic walk, while experienced athletes can register for the timed 12-km “sport” Nordic walk with individual classification. A barefoot walk in seaside water is organized in the afternoon to make people get even closer to nature.

A morning warming-up and a seaside walk are coordinated by Arja Jalkanen-Meyer. She is Finnish, but has been living in France for several years now. She works as sports instructor, psychometrician and educator and is one of the pioneers of Nordic walking in France. During the Normandique, she offers classes to perfecting your Nordic walking technique on Saturday, July 6th from 9 am to 6 pm.

In the time between walks, visitors can enjoy wellness stands at the Village de la Normandique, situated in the Amphithéâtre Perdrisot. The program includes: massages, reflexology or sophrology sessions, beauty workshops, yoga sessions...

*Nordic walking is a walk whose rhythm is faster than regular walking or trekking, as it is enhanced by specially designed poles. They increase the natural movement of your arms and help you move forward and walk faster, longer and with less fatigue. The benefits of the regular practice of this sport at any age are proved: 90% of muscles are stimulated, thus increasing energy loss and favouring weight loss.
