Armchairs by Christian Francheteau
Armchair 1: "For me, water evokes the beginning of life, and without water, there is no life. Man is arrogant and unaware of the omnipotence of Mother Earth, represented here by the heart-shaped armchair, but she is also "Love". Man should remain humble and observe all the magic of life that our planet offers us on land and under water. The beauty and fragility of the flora and fauna represented by the different colors I've chosen, the symbols linked to the sea, the relief - all this we find in the ocean. The little red heart at the back of the seat represents man, to make him aware that he needs nature to live, love and flourish; without it, nature could well do without him. Man is alive thanks to the beating of his heart, and it's through love that we'll succeed in saving our planet.

Armchair 2: "Mother Earth, be benevolent, I know you keep an eye on humanity, sending signs, sounds and turbulence to warn us of the coming currents. Conscious man will resist the coming cataclysm, he will have to, Love will conquer. Life will once again be beautiful, the rainbow will smile, trees and flowers will bloom. Man will rise again. But man does not underestimate Mother Earth."

Born in 1965 in Les Sables d'Olonne (Vendée), Christian Francheteau has devoted his free time since childhood to learning drawing and modeling alongside his father, himself an oil painter. Since 1994, Christian Francheteau has worked in a number of sculpture studios and created sets for advertising events. What best defines his work is, of course, the omnipresence of color in his art, in all its forms and on all materials. Her philosophy of life is to try to bring beauty to her works, to make people aware of the beauty of life.

Armchair by Claude Hastaire
"At first, being familiar with the area, I thought it was necessary to anticipate the work of the seagulls and other cormorants; but what a layer!!! Molière "chose" the stage in order to die there. Eugène Boudin had himself urgently repatriated to Deauville to finish facing the sea. Two admirable actors in their armchairs."

Claude Hastaire was born in Paris in 1946. Painter, essayist, poet and photographer, he has had several hundred solo and group exhibitions in different spaces (galleries, museums, contemporary art centers) in Europe, U.S.A., Canada, Japan and Korea. His real name, Claude Hilaire (he is the son of the painter Camille Hilaire 1916-2004) adopted the pseudonym of "Hastaire" at the age of 16. Winner of the XVIIIth International Prize of Monte Carlo in 1994, Hastaire has produced several hundred lithographs, exhibitions of his photographs have been organized in various galleries (L'oubli atlantique, Le Vietnam retrouvé...), he has also designed furniture: Arromanches, selected by the "New-York Times" with "Puci de Rossi" and "Eleen Grey" (1987). More recently, among others, "les Crapauds Picabia" have met with great success. He is co-founder with his friend the painter Alain Kleinmann of the "Groupe International Mémoires".

Armchairs by Abraham Dayan
"The theme of this exhibition of public chairs being water, I wanted to mystify my work by representing "Jesus" who walks on water in front of a "poor fisherman", a water carrier inspired by our Cosette in the famous work of "Victor Hugo", then the hope of a future life on Mars with a character disembarked from a spacecraft in order to bring the water necessary for this future Eden and finally "Mary" on a starry sky pouring water to give life."

Abraham Dayan was born in 1960 in Casablanca, Morocco, of French nationality. In 1963, at the age of 3, his parents come to live in Paris and will settle there to create their company. He completed his general studies. At the age of 18, he worked in the family business and created his own watch brand. At the age of 33, he had the vision that he had to paint and gave up everything to devote himself to painting. With his characteristic style, he exhibits in many national and international exhibitions.

Armchairs by Monique Anis Glina, Fanny Canto-Pichard, Martine Colliot and Micheline Trelis
"The subject of the "Boucle de la Touques" was immediately obvious, because far from being a "dead arm", this river collects all the natural and recuperated water of the surroundings, recycles it in the ecosystem and gives it back to nature as a source of life. We imagined these armchairs on the bank in front of the playground, and Fanny proposed to represent the river's fauna and flora like a children's book."
Armchair 1: Fanny made a frog taking a shower under a faucet, Monique highlighted a curious coypu, a walker attraction, as well as a coot and water lilies on the back of the armchair.
Armchair 2: Martine chose a duck protecting itself under an umbrella, Micheline represented a carp, undisputed queen of this river, springing out of the reeds, as well as a heron, on the back of the armchair, with its pink boots to avoid getting its feet wet.
During these painting sessions under the sign of humor and good mood, Micheline took to compose some rhymes in homage to this beautiful nature still preserved, and it came out a poem which accompanies this collective work.

Amateur painters, and artists in the soul, we are among the assiduous pupils of Françoise Plékan in Saint-Arnoult, and we answered, to participate in this project. It is thus a collective work that we accomplished together with much pleasure on the two armchairs placed at our disposal.

"Water is a vast world, I looked for inspiration in my daily life, the beaches of Deauville/Trouville and the trawlers that I see entering and leaving the Touques. On one side, the bathers, on the other, the fish in the trawlers. So to the tune of "La maman des poissons" by Boby Lapointe, I thought of a can of sardines. Thus, I created a school of fish, the wooden slats of the armchairs being particularly suitable."

As far back as I can remember I have always drawn, painted, tinkered... whether with paper, wood or fabric. I built my bubble with all of that. During my artistic studies at the Regional School of Caen, I explored various techniques of creation and printing. When I left, I created my own publishing house: "Les Petites Manies", which allows me to produce literary objects in series, even though it usually does not exceed 50 copies. Literature and poetry inspire me a lot in my creative process. Screen printing, which allows me to produce my editions, also gives me the possibility to conceive and print prints, which I regularly exhibit with the collective of "L'Encrage" (association of screen printers at the espace Yvonne Guégan) in Caen and elsewhere. I produce very few unique objects. I like the series, it is less frustrating and one can share much more. Besides, I keep in mind the idea of building bleachers near the pier of Deauville...

Armchairs by Michel Tréhet
"Michel Tréhet plays with water in two images. One, serene, illustrating the bathing of two horses returning from nowhere. This effect is amplified by a barely perceptible horizon, merging with a flat calm sea. The light is soft, as if subdued by a light box. An exceptional moment for these two riders. The second image is a mirror between the sky and the sea, between black and white. As soon as I spotted this contrast, the moment became obsessive. I waited before it became obvious. The black sky, more and more threatening, was reflected with the white foam of the waves. The symmetry was almost perfect, cut in the middle. These two armchairs, side by side, answer each other. They present the richness that the beach of Deauville offers us every day. What better location than the small terrace of the "Point de Vue", facing the sea."
"The world could have been as simple as the sky and the sea" - André Malraux

Born in 1950 in Le Havre. Painter, art director and photographer. In 1993, he became an independent creative director. At the same time he continues to paint and exhibits in different cities such as Paris, Tokyo and Geneva. Photography has always been linked to the conception of his paintings. He always relies on a photograph to realize his paintings. He has lived in Trouville-sur-Mer since 1997 and is particularly interested in the atmosphere of seaside towns. He released his first series of photographs dedicated to Deauville and Trouville-sur-Mer. His journeys between Paris and Trouville-sur-Mer will give birth to a second series exhibited in 2010 in Deauville: "Flash on the A13". In 2009, he connects his activity of artistic director to photography. He participates each year in the photo festival in Deauville "Planches Contact". In 2014, he creates a series event for this festival where he integrates a Barbie Collector in each of his photos in black and white.

"My multi-layered stencil technique is to select several colors presented in a design, then create a stencil based on each of them. Superimposed and curved, they will form a work. Then, I have fun to superimpose my various creations which will tell a story.... I wanted to stage several eras on my chair, to pay tribute to certain artists who represented the beautiful beaches of Normandy, while keeping my "stencil" style with my touch of humor. The bourgeois families of the 19th century made me think of Eugène Boudin, the bathers of the 1930s to the photographs of Robert Doisneau, and the designer Jean-Paul Gauthier and his marine icons."

Born in Rouen, Man-X Man-X lived in Fécamp where he created in 2002 the association "Art hétéroclite" specialized in graffiti to promote street art. He started working as a computer graphic designer at the age of 18, then turned to his current profession, stone cutting. After fifteen years of mostly urban creation, Man-x decided in 2009 to cut his first stencil. His favorite themes are: his children - his personal environment. He then revisits music groups, hijacked posters, etc.. The choice of the support remains for this artist very broad. With practice, the cuts become more and more meticulous, the fineness of detail of his stencils shows the patience of this young artist.

Coming regularly to Normandy, the sea is, for me, a natural source of inspiration. Now available, I devote myself fully to this passion that is painting. I like to describe and share scenes of everyday life through our countryside, characters and the sea. This is my dream part and I escape with great pleasure and well-being."

Armchairs by André Hudin - "The Rain
"Since the surface to be painted presents two perpendicular planes, "the rain" seemed obvious to me. The vertical visual perception manifests itself in the form of more or less inclined vertical lines and its horizontal manifestation in the form of interfering concentric circles on a flooded surface. Following an abstract work, started previously on the rhythms, the contrasts of colors, values and forms, the final realization imposed itself rather quickly."

Amateur painter, since my childhood, I paint and I draw for my pleasure and that of my close relations who share my tastes. My productions are essentially figurative, in a more personal color palette. I try to paint an atmosphere around my characters or my architectures, rather than reality. I use oil paint or pastel, and more recently acrylic. I have exhibited in several shows (Brécey, Avranches, Le Mans, Fougères) with a certain success at the end of the 70's, beginning of the 80's. My professional (teacher) and family activities kept me away from this hobby for a while. Retirement has allowed me to renew my interest in this hobby and I exhibit at the "Rivière Saint-Sauveur", my home town. I participate in the courses or workshops of Françoise Plékan in Saint-Arnoult and Yves Riguidel at the MJC of Trouville-sur-Mer. Recently, under the guidance of Yves Riguidel, I have been approaching abstract art with great curiosity and enthusiasm.

"This work is in the vein of purism, a movement created by "Ozenfant" and "Le Corbusier". This is why the drawing presents synthetic forms, precise contours and flat colors. It is the arrangement of the colored forms which creates the emotion. This realization is also a tribute to the poster artist "Cassandre" and his liner "Normandie". The transatlantic crossing Le Havre - New York which will take place in 2017 on board the "Queen Mary 2" also gave me the desire to represent Normandy as a region calling for travel and discovery of other cultures."

Originally from the Pyrenees, I have nevertheless always been attracted to the seaside. This is why the Côte Fleurie and more particularly Bénerville-sur-Mer where I live, are dear to me.

"My goal: to stimulate the imagination of each person, to decipher the symbolism, thanks to the shapes, volumes, lines and colors."
"The Blue Octopus", a fantastic creature, collects messages of love. It symbolizes the strength of the bond. Her tentacles receive your padlocks, tokens of love or attachment.
The "Golden Mermaid", protective goddess, delivers her message of love. The sun's rays on her finery magnify her luminous beauty through the mirror effect. The mermaid is the symbol of fertility because water is the source of life."

Sebastien Lucas is a musical composer, painter and sculptor. He was oriented very early in various artistic activities and studied at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Caen. Pianist and organist. He was awarded a first regional prize for musical composition by the Ministry of Culture and the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs at the age of 16. He has composed and self-produced several albums including "Abyss of the Whales" for "IFAW" - whale protection and notably "Voices of light" with Lama Gyurmé and Prince Michel of Greece. Sebastien Lucas defines his painting as "Pop Art", linked to modern techniques. He works on acrylic canvas, then digitizes, reworks with the computer tool to obtain more powerful colors. To finalize his works, he then proceeds to fix the pigments on an unalterable support.

"I am a painter and was already working on the theme of fish: they came out of the water, humanized mischievously as they walked... Here they are back in their environment, in any case, facing the sea, beautiful place. What else could I paint? All that was left was to tighten the slats of the chair, too far apart for the coherence of the drawing. Then I had to "landscape" the seat and the backrest in the same continuity of lines, then delicately place some of my fish... Goldfish! And the final touch, the pupil. Now they live!!!"

Luc Michel is a self-taught artist. It's been a few years since he exhibited his paintings, attending various regional shows (Saint Romain-La Hêtraie, St Laurent de Brèvedent, Artistes ouvriers du Havre) where he was awarded a few prizes. He participated in 2014 and 2016 in "Rouen National Art". We could also see him at the Tourist Office of Le Havre, at the "Pasino", at the Gallery "Les Mots Passants à Etretat", at the abbey of Montivilliers. For the past three years, he has been exhibiting his work at the "Galerie Hamon" in Le Havre, and more recently at the "Galerie 13" in Honfleur. The artist paints a playful, humorous, poetic universe, rich in color where fish, a nice pretext for some extravagance, compete for the front of the canvas. After having worked for a long time in watercolor, the paintings he proposes today are realized in acrylic, offering an even more colorful palette.

"My path took me from Germany to the Normandy coast. From East to West, water attracts me. This environment populated by fish, source and resources of the man frees me. Its lightness supports me, I let myself float on top of the waves. They break, I find myself on the concrete of the city. There, like a fish in the net, I continue my walk. My fish is printed in the concrete of the chair. Concrete is an enduring material, typical of our society. In a thousand years a new geological layer will have been formed, that of concrete."

Holder of a doctoral thesis in geology, this Le Havre native of German origin, has been manipulating concrete by creating objects and artistic "paintings" for about ten years. Using an original technique, she shapes objects made of cement poured on a lattice and cased in a wooden frame. The addition of colored pigments, metallic pieces, fragments of mirrors, fragments of ceramics, finalize the rendering, leaving a large part to the unpredictability of the mixtures while preserving a figurative rendering. The reference to the "Perret" architecture is obvious for this guide-lecturer, approved by the Ministry of Culture since 2003, at the origin of workshops for children proposing to experiment with concrete. Currently represented also at the "Galerie Gloux" in Concarneau, the artist has already worked in the city of Le Havre in 2003. You will notice a bas-relief in tinted concrete on the façade of the "Maison Odyssée", the work chosen after a competition and financed by the "Pièces jaunes". The artist is committed to the dissemination of Art by creating with her association "Regart" the open door of artists' studios in the Le Havre region, "Open Art", which takes place every two years. Another successful project is the organization of artistic exchanges with the "H2O gallery" in Magdeburg, Germany.

"Quiet but moving, transparent but mirror-like, the water around us is fascinating and mysterious, just a detail allows to sublimate it. My goal, beyond this photo, was to capture the light, the reflections and shadows, the movement of this soothing water. It is through these different angles that this photo incites reflection and tranquility."

Born in Deauville and passionate about photography for as long as I can remember, I have sought to immortalize moments of life through photography since my teenage years. I have exhibited in Vauville several times and after a break of a few years to start a family, I exhibited again in the spring of 2018 in Domfront en Poiraie.
If I talk to you about photography, I would tell you that it is above all an art but it is also a passion. A photo tells a story, reveals the beauty of things and landscapes. There is nothing like a photo to immortalize a moment, an emotion, a light..."

"To create an armchair is to link aesthetics to comfort. Here by the sea, the choice of durable materials led me to choose wood. An oak wood that has already gone through many decades, ready to face winds and tides. Reusing a wood, giving it a new life through another function, offering it another design, enhancing it. These oak woods have been the main thread of my approach, leading me to the realization of this armchair with a boat spirit decorated with a copper porthole."

Philippe Olive, a professional sculptor-plastician for nearly 30 years, lives and works in Calvados in Audrieu-France.
"His perpetual quest takes the form of an instinctive approach, he creates the emotion of a moment. The work becomes movement and confronts the material, a search for harmony is established, it is an invitation to contemplation. Going beyond the figurative to better express the lightness, fragility, feminine sensuality. Living sculptures, they evolve, revealing their various facets to the liking of the glance. Free form, resulting from the addition of a part of destiny, intuition, the emotion of a moment. Philippe Olive makes the most of taut curves to energize movement and propel forms into space. Playing with materials rich in nobility, with smoothness and roughness, he offers a dynamic transforming the unreal into existential, perception into reality. The finished single work possesses this universal harmony, releasing a revealing vibration of symbols and philosophical messages of love and freedom."

For the Inuit, Sedna is the goddess of the sea, whom they venerate because she gives them the food they need to survive. During their trance, the shamans use a large comb to comb Sedna's long hair to appease her anger.
According to the legend, Sedna, having no more hands to comb her hair, regularly gets angry when she sees the dirt that accumulates in her hair and that she cannot remove. The stupidity of men, as well as the meanness they show towards animals, are represented by the dirt that is gradually deposited in Sedna's hair. Sedna then becomes very upset and keeps the animals of the sea near her and the people run out of food. It is necessary to respect Nature and women, and for the Shamans, to be able to enter into a trance in order to appease the anger of Sedna...

The magic of encounters. From one continent to another, since life has existed, water has been the link for discoveries, communication and exchanges. The inhabitants of the sea and the marshes cross paths and the magic of this world is created before our eyes, the meeting of the mermaid and the swans.

"Born in 1954, after the time of a professional life, retirement was the time and the door for a new form of reflection and travel in my imagination. Painting has become for me the means of expression of this imagination which often takes the form of a metaphor. The meeting of the worlds of the Sea and the Marsh is an example."

These four mermaids represent four stars who have marked the life of Deauville and could often be met on the boards: Gabrielle Chanel for her hats, sailors and bathing suits that revolutionized fashion; Suzy Solidor, singer, after having set the nights of the casino and Brummel's on fire, loved to relax on the beach; Josephine Baker, her long walks on the Planks with Chiquita, her panther; Anouk Aimée, great star for having been the main actress in Claude Lelouch's film "Un homme et une femme", an international triumph that won an Oscar.

Naïade Plante armchair
"The theme of this armchair project particularly inspired me because water is one of the most precious goods we have on our beautiful planet. In order to realize the images of this armchair, I spent several hours in one of the pretty small rivers of the forest of Saint Gatien, my village. The fauna and flora are fragile and delicate, we need to preserve them in conscience, because we are all part of the same ecosystem."

Naïade was born in Jerusalem. A childhood cradled and impregnated by the sea and adventure, by the open sea and the horizon have surely led her to appreciate the medium of photography with this desire clinging to her heart to bear witness to what makes sense for the best in a complex world and all the beauties of the living world, to be preserved! Contemplative, and admiring that life is a miracle!
In 1996, Naïade trained in photography at the Iris Center and in audiovisual at the Sorbonne. She was awarded the 1st Rolleiflex Prize and became the artistic director of the Off Festival Chroniques Nomades in Honfleur for seven years. In 1998, she travelled around India for the association Aide et Action, and captured the work of NGOs in favor of children's education. These photographic emotions mark the beginning of her professional career.
Institutional commissions, reports, weddings, portraits and advertising shots enrich his experience. After several years shared between India and France, with family and passion, she rests her bags in Normandy.

"While painting on this bench for the City of Saint-Gatien-des-Bois, I let myself be lulled by the lapping of the water of the stream that runs through this city. All this in the hope of giving a little reverie, rest and a lot of happiness to the walkers."

Born in 1946, strongly encouraged by my parents, it is since my youngest age, that I was attracted by the drawing and the painting. It was in the 1970s that I really started to paint with gouache. It was by chance that I met Jean Pierre Ferrand, a renowned painter next door. His advice led me to approach oil painting.
Because of my job I participated in large architectural projects in the world of aeronautics (infrastructure and buildings).
Since I am retired I devote myself even more to this passion. I often paint from photos that inspire me.
Self-taught painter I participate, since 2001, in group exhibitions, sometimes personal.

"The Armchair in the Seine was inspired by a series on "La belle époque". A painting full of nostalgia and novels from the beginning of the century, but also on the material that transforms and corrodes. The "Georges V" is purely imaginary. It existed but does not resemble in any way the one I painted."

Erik de Saint Pierre was born in Paris in 1958. He shared his youth between the Paris region and Normandy. He created his first communication agency in Jersey at the age of 16. After his baccalaureate, he joined the Met workshop at Penninghen and then the École Supérieure d'Arts Graphiques (Paris VI). After working as a layout artist at the Éditorial agency, art director at Lire and then creative director at the LG group, he created his own communications agencies (Lanscape, Graph'M, Vif Argent and Pégase) while maintaining his activities as creative director and multimedia designer.
In 2010, Erik leaves the Paris region to devote himself to painting in Normandy. Member of several associations of Norman painters, it is in 2013 that he creates La p'tite galerie in Honfleur. Since 2015 he leads a painting workshop in Gonneville-sur-Honfleur.
Since June 2016, Erik has joined the dictionary of artists alongside the Hotel Drouot.

Born in 1963, Véronique Lefèvre is passionate about decoration and creation (jewelry, accessories ...) and animal photography.
After studying law and her artistic encounter with Etienne Bailleul, she opened a gallery workshop in Honfleur for fifteen years, then in Trouville-sur-mer.

Armchair by Philippe Leray
"It was the title "Armchairs on Stage" that gave me the idea. An image came back to me: Hitchcock, sitting on his director's chair with an umbrella, he was shooting a scene from one of his films on location, it was raining, the theme of water was found."

Philippe Leray was born in 1944 in Paris, after courses in applied arts and studies in decoration, he realizes many arrangements in the fields of the window, the stand, the decoration of apartments and the edition. Since 1965 he has devoted himself to painting and drawing.
He held his first major exhibition at the Cardo-Matignon gallery in Paris in 1968, at the same time as the painter Maï Thu. He worked only with ink and pencil until 1978. In 1970, he left Paris to settle in Normandy near Lisieux, and created a canine vacation center which made him famous in the animal field. In 1977, he was the first artist to exhibit portraits of movie stars at the American Film Festival in Deauville. In 1979, he created a line of contemporary furniture "Bois et Lumière". From 1984 to 1990, after his pastels, his exhibitions included paintings and sculptures. Women, landscapes, felines are the fields of application that he favors. In 1993, he opens his workshop "L'Art du temps" near Bayeux, gives courses, invites his friends painters to exhibit. In 1999, he returned to the Auge region and continued his workshop "L'Art du temps".
Since 2012, he exhibits every year in Cambremer (Calvados). His theme "C'est beau la vie" becomes the common thread of his future exhibitions. Inks, Pastels, Oils are the materials he combines with passion.

Armchair by Florence Lebay
"The sea: our origins, its biodiversity, its preservation, its fauna, its richness of forms and colors, a fascinating world, an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The octopus: a mysterious animal, with a surprising intelligence, attractive for some, repulsive for others, present in all the seas of the world, imposed itself to me to illustrate the theme of the sea. I wanted to make it attractive with its orange color and its big eyes, to the point of sitting in the hollow of its tentacles to invite you to contemplate the sea."

Florence Lebey was born in 1958 in Versailles, daughter of a printer who made her aware of Art, she joined the Roederer workshop and then the Camando school where she studied interior architecture. In the 1980s, she returned to her maternal origins in Tourgéville where she joined her husband, a local Calvados producer. However, the artistic fiber has not left her, in 2012 she creates with five painters "La p'tite galerie" in Honfleur where she can give free rein to her creative spirit.

Annette Boyer's armchair
"Solicited by Trouville-sur-mer to create an armchair, I used various techniques and materials, representative of my artistic career. Facing the sea, you can sit on my mermaid deckchair. Like the fabrics often striped seaside loungers, the body is streaked with bright colors. Its armrest reminding the incessant movement of water, will welcome yours. Its fish tail, metallic interlacing, inspired by the fishing net, will relax your legs, and its benevolent face will watch over the serenity of your rest. I wanted this chaise longue, sculptural and poetic, and chose the small corner of the garden that hosts it, romantic."

Visual artist, insatiable and prolific, Annette Boyer refuses to limit herself to a single mode of expression: paintings, collages, engravings, and sculptures, constitute a generous and unclassifiable work. The materials used, such as metal, paint, clay, resin or paper, allow her to create creations that match her imagination.
She leaves the field free to a pure artistic expression that she also reveals through her drawings and collages, guided by a passionate emotion and imagination. Her know-how, mixed with a formidable creativity, transports her into a poetic and fantastic universe that belongs only to her.

Armchair of Claudine Arras
This painting illustrates the water and the serenity it inspires in Vauville.

Claudine Arras, an architect by training, came to painting by taking classes with Joëlle Tomasso for the past fifteen years.
She now has her own studio in Normandy. Her painting is based on color and matter from photos taken on different sites but more particularly in the Pays d'Auge where the nuances of light are multiple. The practice of painting has allowed her to taste tools, supports and formatting.

Yvelise Holopherne's armchair
"For Fauteuils en Seine, I wanted to create playful designs in connection with the place where the chairs are installed. So I proposed a theme on water and the animals found there. I declined their representation on the chair by using colors and graphics representing the aquatic world. The life that abounds in water inspired me for this pictorial creation."
