In the footsteps of filming "A Monkey In Winter"

The film "A Monkey in Winter" was mainly shot in Villerville in 1962. Every year, fireworks are set off during the last weekend in October, as in the film. Film buffs also come to stroll around the filming locations which are always present and marked with totems (map available at the Villerville Tourist Information Office).

Claude Pinoteau wrote, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary:
"" Strange, as a major work can be accomplished by chance replacement of an aborted project. Renouncing the film "Off the coast of Eden", Jean Gabin forced Henri Verneuil and Michel Audiard to find another subject within the strict time limit imposed by his contract. Premonition? Hazard ? This bondage produced a masterpiece. The credit mainly goes to Audiard who proposed, in extremis, the Antoine Blondin novel: "A monkey in winter". Everything then went on incredibly, as if this film had preexisted and finally flourished freely: casting, staging, dialogues, work plan, sets ... This film had "grace". Setting out from the Picardy coast to Cotentin to find the "Tigreville" of the novel, Villerville imposed itself on me as obvious. Verneuil adopted it on photos ".
