At the end of the 19th century, the boom in sea bathing
introduced on the coast luxurious villas and buildings
of a great variety of architectural styles.
The first buildings, dating from the Second Empire, proudly display
bricks and ornaments in relief. Later, the importance of nature
a new relationship to the living environment,
organizing the house around large openings: bow windows, loggias and balconies
and balconies enliven the facades. Then came the historicist trend, a clever mixture of influences
borrowed from classical styles (Italian, Flemish, medieval, renaissance...).
In the 1920's, the Norman style was finally imposed,
combining colored wood panelling, chequered brickwork and roof overhangs.
In a completely different style, deliberately more modern, Deauville is also known for its
for its Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings. This unique heritage
gives the area an original, distinctive and precious charm,
to be discovered along the streets or during the guided tours offered by the tourist information offices.
On foot or by bike, take these streets to enjoy the surprising architecture of the seaside villas.
