During the week, Deauville seems to withdraw into itself, with many shutters closed. Then come Friday, and the Parisian elite fill the town's hotels, restaurants and luxury boutiques for the weekend. The town's main attraction, however, remains the beach, or rather its famous 656-metre-long beach - Les Planches. A vanity fair where wealth makes a spectacle of itself. The perfect facade for a pretentious seaside resort - until Saturday morning, when the first trains pass through a dark mass towards the sea. For it's also the closest destination to the suburbs, whose inhabitants head out for a fun and stylish expedition. The picnic area becomes a melting pot, with people piling up right up to the edge of the waves. The segregation is obvious, all divided under the same flag.
