Thanks to valuable information gleaned from contemporary newspapers, the memoirs of artists who frequented the Normandy region between the 1850s and 1890s, and the meticulously researched correspondence of Eugène Boudin himself, we are now able to draw up the first comprehensive list of these artists.
This captivating lecture will focus on several aspects: painters living in the region at the time, such as Adolphe-Félix Cals, Alexandre Dubourg, Gustave Hamelin, and many others; those who traveled to meet Boudin, such as Johan Barthold Jongkind, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Théodule Ribot; finally, those who had the privilege of working alongside Boudin, such as Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet, Constant Troyon, to name but a few.
On the occasion of the bicentenary of Eugène Boudin's birth, this primer will reveal the circumstances and chronology of the encounters between these exceptional artists, as well as the nature of the artistic exchanges that ensued, shedding new light on this pivotal period in art history.
