Contemporary theater has its classics... and its passers-by. At the height of her art, Catherine Hiegel dazzles with her humour and delicacy. She interprets two plays by Jean-Luc Lagarce, the most brilliant playwright of the 1990-2000 period.
The first, nostalgic and luminous, gives way to a hilarious monologue. An exceptional meeting with an immense actress.
In "Les Règles du savoir-vivre dans la société moderne", a 19th century manual of good manners, Jean-Luc Lagarce cheerfully plunders the work of the pseudo Baroness Staffe, which traces the bourgeois rituals of life, from baptism to burial, including engagements, weddings and widowhood. Although the work is addressed to the bourgeois society of 1889, we perceive no less at the time of #MeToo, the grating echoes.
"Music-Hall" sounds like an acerbic and tender hymn to the life of an artist. Catherine Hiegel, in the company of these two boys, offers a moving interpretation of the character invented by Jean-Luc Lagarce. This dented music-hall singer, touring in the provinces because she has to eat to live. The actress, whose perfect technical mastery and art of moving from drama to comedy is well known, plays the role of her life with a confounding delicacy: being an actress.
"Evoking the fragility of life, the ephemerality of the living spectacle, this "Music-hall" is a most deliciously decadent show, a sweet and sour candy to be savored without moderation!" L'oeil de l'Olivier
