It was in 2012, quite by chance, that the photographer discovered African American cowboys and cowgirls and the Bill Pickett Rodeo in Atlanta.
Fascinated by cultural diversity since his beginnings as a photographer for UNESCO, and always imbued with the quote from Saint-Exupéry, "If you differ from me, my brother, far from hurting me, you enrich me", Cyril Bailleul , in the continuity of this approach, wishes to share through this exhibition this African-American western heritage, an important American cultural heritage.

Born in 1870, Bill Pickett is a legendary cowboy from Taylor (Texas) descended from Africans and Cherokee Indians. Pickett invented the "Bulldogging" technique which earned him the nickname "The Bull-Dogger". He performed in the biggest rodeo shows in the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America and even England. He even became the first African-American western film actor, admitted to the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1971. Every year since its creation in 1984, The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo crosses the United States to celebrate the legacy of these cowgirls and African American cowboys.
