Armchair by Philippe Olive
"To create an armchair is to link aesthetics to comfort. Here by the sea, the choice of durable materials led me to choose wood. An oak wood that has already gone through many decades, ready to face winds and tides. Reusing a wood, giving it a new life through another function, offering it another design, enhancing it. These oak woods have been the main thread of my approach, leading me to the realization of this armchair with a boat spirit decorated with a copper porthole."
Philippe Olive, a professional sculptor-plastician for nearly 30 years, lives and works in Calvados in Audrieu-France.
"His perpetual quest takes the form of an instinctive approach, he creates the emotion of a moment. The work becomes movement and confronts the material, a search for harmony is established, it is an invitation to contemplation. Going beyond the figurative to better express the lightness, fragility, feminine sensuality. Living sculptures, they evolve, revealing their various facets to the liking of the glance. Free form, resulting from the addition of a part of destiny, intuition, the emotion of a moment. Philippe Olive makes the most of taut curves to energize movement and propel forms into space. Playing with materials rich in nobility, with smoothness and roughness, he offers a dynamic transforming the unreal into existential, perception into reality. The finished single work possesses this universal harmony, releasing a revealing vibration of symbols and philosophical messages of love and freedom."
