Pierre-Olivier Deschamps

Photographer of Les Franciscaines's great project

Pierre-Olivier Deschamps, a photographer from the VU' agency, is following the evolution of the Franciscaines' major project until its opening in 2020. He comes regularly to Deauville to capture in images the important phases of the building's evolution. His images are published on this site under the heading "Follow the construction site in images".

" This early January 2018, while photographing Les Franciscaines site, I had the feeling of going beyond the mere sensitive inventory of the signs of the bygone presence of this small religious community. The color and light, revealed to me by this beautiful sleepy place, seemed to be an ideal bridge to this future cultural place open to the widest audience."

PIERRE-OLIVIER DESCHAMPS has lived and worked in Paris since 1981.
Initially a theater photographer and studio assistant, his work was quickly distributed by the daily newspaper Libération. He was one of the first photographers to join the VU' Agency. He then made numerous portraits in the world of literature and cinema and participated in the development of a new form of reportage photography. For the past ten years, through press publications and institutional collaborations, he has been interested in architecture and the urban landscape in all its forms.

In 2007, he published Architectures, co-published by Editions du Chêne and Arte Editions. In 2010, he published a book on the Houses of Architects in Paris with La Martinière Editions and won a World Press Photo award the same year for his series "Residence". In 2012 he completed a book on French industrial heritage published by La Martinière. In 2013, he completed a 2-year photographic campaign about the urban landscape in Ile-de-France, on all the future sites of the Grand Paris network project. In 2013, he also made a photographic inventory of the wasteland of the department store La Samaritaine, exhibited in the fall of 2015. For the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, he carried out two important campaigns in 2014 and 2016 of still lifes from the museum's collections, campaigns that led to the publication in 2017 of a beautiful book by Actes Sud. Since September 2015, he has been following the transformation of the future Samaritaine.
