Deauville Cheval / Polo paradise

Meeting with Jean-Edouard Mazery and Francisco "Pancho" Bensadon

Their names are engraved on the prestigious Gold Cup, the legendary trophy of the Deauville polo season. Jean-Edouard Mazery continues to hit the ball, while presiding over the destiny of the Deauville International Polo Club. Francisco "Pancho" Bensadon, professional player of the In The Wings team, takes part in the final of the 2018 edition, alongside of his son, Rufino. The players help us understand what makes Deauville famous in the world of Polo.

The magic of Deauville is the only city in the world where you can see horses running at the same time as you play polo in the middle of a racecourse.

In 1880, the first polo matches were already being played in Deauville. It was in 1907 that the club founded by Baron Robert de Rothschild, Captain Joubert and the Duke of Gramont really saw the light of day. The grounds already occupied the heart of the Touques racecourse! Thanks to the Gold Cup, instituted by François André in 1950, the Polo in Deauville is the only French tournament and one of the three major European tournaments to be able to display a prize list including the names of all the greatest players of these six last decades. Since the first edition won in 1951 by Cibao La Pampa, most of the gods of polo, the famous handicaps 10, have set foot on the grounds of the Deauville-La Touques racecourse with their horses.

On horseback in Deauville

In Deauville, the alleys are cavalier and the houses are named after galloping cracks. It is one of the few places where you can take your horse for the weekend or play polo all year round. You can also buy a horse with others, meet the best jockeys in the world, learn aerobatics, gallop on the beach in the early morning, train with a horse riding pro back from the Olympics.
Stories that we share every day and that are transmitted for the pleasure of thousands of visitors who have chosen Deauville for years.
Being a horse capital in Deauville means living all these stories and leaving with the pleasure still at hand to have touched a whole world with your finger.
