Deauville Cheval / Preparing the yearlings
Interview with Antoine Bellanger ahead of the major August sales
Before entering the Arqana ring, the young thoroughbreds, who have never been ridden before, are prepared in the region's stud farms.
Antoine Bellanger supervises this preparation on behalf of Ecurie des Monceaux. It's the work of an entire team that he takes us through, before setting off for Deauville.
It's a job based on know-how, small gestures, knowing how to observe horses, something you can't do if you're not passionate about it.
Yearling sales
YEARLING SALES
Deauville is the leading thoroughbred auctioneer in France and the second largest in Europe. Countless grass-covered track stars have been auctioned at the famous "Deauville sales", which have become a veritable seal of quality in the racing world. The Elie de Brignac hall held its first sale in 1892. Today, run by the Arqana company, it hosts seven auctions a year, three of which are devoted to yearlings, two to horses in training and horses "ready to race", and two to breeding and mixed sales.
horseback riding in Deauville
In Deauville, the alleys are cavalier and the houses are named after the best gallopers. It is one of the few places where you can take your horse for a weekend or play polo all year round. You can also buy a horse together, meet the best jockeys in the world, learn acrobatics, gallop on the beach in the early morning, train with an equestrian pro back from the Olympic Games.
These are stories that are shared daily and passed on for the pleasure of thousands of visitors who have been choosing Deauville for years.
Being a horse capital in Deauville means living all these stories and leaving with the pleasure of having touched a whole world.
