This LED lighting is energy efficient (50% less than conventional lighting) while being perfectly suited to televising races taking place on the fiber-sand track. It also helps to achieve a uniform light intensity throughout the course which is important for the horses during the race. Finally, to limit visual disturbances near the racetrack as much as possible, the intensity of the lighting may vary from 100% (full power during the races) to 5% between the events.

New equipment that fits perfectly into the different areas of the racetrack

After laying the electrical connections, nearly 70 new lighting poles and around thirty spotlights installed on the stand along the finish line, provide lighting for the PSF (fiber-sand track). The lighting poles were specially designed by the architect Claude Penloup. They are made in France and embellished by the addition of a silhouette of a peloton of galloping horses!

Exploit more favorable time slots in terms of horse racing betting

The new lighting of the fiber-sand track gives France Galop greater flexibility in building its race calendar, with a view to optimizing the challenges. Race meetings, which started early in winter, will now be able to cover the more promising time slots for the stakes (14 p.m. to 18 p.m.). This will also make it possible to schedule more races after the event race, the Quinté +.

For this end of the year, from November to December 2021, 15 race meetings are positioned in Deauville taking into account the use of the new PSF lighting, at least on a few races of the day. And in 2022, the lighting is expected to be used for 23 meetings.

Enhancement of the Norman architecture of the racecourse

The project selected by France Galop(1) within the framework of the installation of these new equipments also had for will to answer a constant concern of the Town hall of Deauville of development of the historic buildings of the city. From now on, the elegant lines of the stands and the half-timbering of the various buildings of the Deauville racecourse, including those of the Balances which border the circle of the return of the winning horse, will be underlined by lighting installed as part of the work. The lights will also illuminate the stands in different colors.

Strengthen the safety of the public and professionals on the racetrack

Beyond the track and the various buildings, the lighting will also be a safety element on race days. For the public, lighting will be reinforced in the outdoor car parks, the pedestrian areas of the racecourse and in the stands. In order to provide uniform, non-disturbing lighting for horses and jockeys, it is also deployed in the presentation round, the winners' round, as well as in the boxes and stables for the entourage of the starters. This new equipment and the lighting of the facades, fit perfectly in the development of a leisure offer around the horse led for years by Deauville, while respecting the aesthetic standards of the resort which has many historic buildings.
