Dana Cojbuc, winner of the Tremplin jeunes talents at the Planches Contact festival

"Have you ever seen a beach of rushes dreaming of being a wheat field?

Each year at the Planches Contact Festival, the Tremplin Jeunes Talents allows photographers and video artists to benefit from several weeks of creative residency during which they are invited to give their view of Normandy.
During their residency, these photographers benefit from the help and support of the festival teams and the City of Deauville. A grant is awarded to them for the realization of their project, which is submitted to the Festival's jury, chaired by Sarah Moon.

Among the five candidates selected this year, Dana Cojbuc wins the 2022 Jury Prize.

This young photographer from Romania is a graduate of the Fine Arts School of Bucharest. Her works, already presented in many museums and exhibitions, operate a shift from reality to invented worlds. In Deauville, she staged her native Romanian village on the beach. Plants, human and animal silhouettes mingle with the elements. These "unnatural marriages that create this delicious and at the same time bizarre feeling of disorientation" seduced the members of the jury.

"Country, landscape, peasant. Dana Cojbuc, Romanian of origin, carries from one country to another the memory and the impressions of her childhood, spent in a small village in the deep east. From this time, she brings back strong images - peasants, with their old women with hair covered with a flowery kerchief or men wearing a small gypsy galurin. But in this disorientation, the images do not allow anything but a serene acceptance to emerge: the landscape of yesterday fertilizes the landscape of today. This taste for mixing is not only due to the motif. It extends to the medium. The photograph, its print, is thus taken up and worked on by the artist who, as a photographer, becomes a drawer. Dana draws threads from the shadows of the photograph. The photo overflows its frame as if the emotion contained could not be circumscribed and expressed in the only work of the camera, of the lens. The instantaneous of the acheiropoïète image (made without the hand) calls the duration of the image drawn image. Rarely has one seen the eye of the photographer so gracefully harmonize with the hand of the artist.
