A cocktail of talent in Deauville
The City of Deauville invited Marc Jean, head bartender at the famous Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy bar, and Calvados Dupont, the historic distillery of the Pays d'Auge, to create a cocktail bearing its name. The cocktail's composition reflects Deauville's roots in the picturesque Pays d'Auge, and its light, festive, summery spirit, whatever the season: Calvados, Pommeau and Sureau Saint Germain flower liqueur are freshly blended with organic apple and lemon juice, and pressed cucumber.
This cocktail, like all Deauville-branded products, has a sense of the territory and the collective. It showcases the talents, entrepreneurial successes and places that bear the history of the town and Normandy. The apple and the lice des Planches are the hallmarks of the label.
The Deauville cocktail was unveiled on June 3 at the Barrière Normandy Hotel.
Marc Jean, the composer
From an early age, Marc Jean was drawn to luxury, its codes and elegance. After working as a bellboy at the Hotel Bellevue in Trouville, he apprenticed at the Grand Hôtel in Cabourg, and trained in the dining room.
Chef de rang then maître d'hôtel... It was the absence of a bartender that made him move behind the counter, "an extraordinary theatrical universe" that he has never left. In 1988, he walked through the door of the Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy in Deauville and obtained the coveted position of third bartender, rising through the ranks to officially take over management of the bar on January 1, 2000. Always on the lookout for trends, he constantly renews his recipes and innovates with a sense of the other.
A good mixologist without a vision of the customer and an eye for detail is not a good bartender: you have to be a psychologist, a good listener, discreet, creative, like people...
The Louis Dupont family estate, expert
The Louis Dupont family estate covers 35 hectares of organically-farmed orchards in the heart of the Pays d'Auge. The estate produces ciders, pommeau and calvados.
For over 25 years, the estate has been resolutely committed to quality. Inspired by the best techniques used in the production of luxury spirits and grands crus, Etienne Dupont's family, his son and daughter, and the Domaine team have studied, experimented and refined their production techniques to achieve the elegance and expression of the finest wines and eaux de vie.
The Bar at Hôtel Barrière le Normandy, the cradle
Hailed as "the most beautiful hotel in the world" when it opened, the Normandy Barrière boasts a British-style bar, complete with stone fireplace and tall mahogany chairs. Winston Churchill was a regular here. The Louis XVI-style wood panelling is adorned with paintings depicting Deauville life. In the surrounding galleries, paintings by William Siss magnify the riders of Longchamp.
