Maurice Chevalier


Maurice Chevalier, popular singer and actor on the international stage, was invited - together with Mistinguett - by Eugène Cornuché in July 1912 to the inauguration of the Casino and the Normandy Hotel. Maurice Chevalier was frequently seen in Deauville from 1913 to the 1960s. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the Bar du Soleil. Friend of Lucien and Martha Barrière, he was the sponsor of the new Olympic Swimming pool in July 1966, together with Marie Laforêt. On September 1st 1969, when he published his album titled “80 berges”, he was appointed Citoyen d’honneur of the city of Deauville by Michel d’Ornano. He wrote on the guest book of the City: “I’d like to thank the Deputy Mayor of Deauville for encouraging me to stand up straight when leaving the Town Hall”.
