Nicolas Chedmail

Born in Angers in 1978. In 2003 Nicolas obtained his Modern Horn Prize at the CNSMD in Lyon in the class of Mr. Garcin-Marrou and soon joined the higher education of the Musical Academies of Saintes where he studied with Mr. Maury.

Since January 2004, he has participated in the projects of groups specializing in the interpretation of music on period instruments: Le Concert de la Loge, Les Arts florissants, Il Convito, La Petite Symphonie, Les Talents Lyriques, Le Cercle de l 'Harmony, The Matheus Ensemble, The Musicians of the Louvre, Opera Fuoco, Les Siècles, Les Agrémens,.

He plays with modern orchestras such as The Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Les Dissonances, l'Orchestre National de France, Orchester de l'Opéra de Lyon, Orchester de Chambre de Paris.

He also pursues a chamber music activity with the Edding Quartet, the Hoffmann Quartet and the Philidor Ensemble.

Passionate about improvisation and sound experimentation, he invented at the beginning of 2001 the "spatialized horn" or "spat", an instrument from the brass family which allows the sound to be spatialized. In 2003, he brought together a group of space artists under the name of Spat'Sonore.

It is found in various music ensembles ranging from jazz (with Médéric Collignon, the Umlaut Bigband) to contemporary music (in the set L'Instant Donné or the Ensemble Cairn).
