The chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption is used as a church for the parish of Blonville-sur-mer and is an original example of a building where modern techniques and material are combined with the inspiration of the builders of the Middle Age cathedrals. Painter Jean-Denis Maillart and canon Duvieu guiding him contributed to the building of this church. These frescos painted on the cement of the walls from 1960 to 1962 got their inspiration from and used the same symbolism of our cathedrals. The continuity of the Old and New Testament is found at the heart of the sanctuary through the series of patriarchs and prophets placed on both sides and the twelve apostles. The mediator between them to accomplish the God’s plan is Virgin Mary. The six large panels of the nave evoke the main phases of his life, from Annunciation to Assumption.

Free visits from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12; on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.

The book titled "Fresques murales de Jean-Denis Maillart” on sale at the Tourist Information Office of Blonville-sur-mer.
