Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption

Pasteur Street

The chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption which serves as a church for the parish of Blonville-sur-mer offers the original example of a construction where modern techniques and materials are associated with the inspiration of the builders of medieval cathedrals . The painter Jean-Denis Maillart and the canon Duvieu who guided him were the happy craftsmen. These frescoes painted on the cement of the walls between 1960 and 1962 are inspired by the same spirit and use the same symbolism as our cathedrals. The continuity of the Old and New Testaments is affirmed in the choir of the sanctuary, by the series of patriarchs and prophets on one side and on the other, that of the twelve apostles. The mediator between the two for the accomplishment of God's plan is the Virgin Mary. The six large panels of the nave evoke the major stages of his life, from the Annunciation to the Assumption.

Open houses from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m.
