Lorenzo Castore

Guest photographer at the festival planches contact 2020

Lorenzo Castore

Invited to the festival planches contact 2020

Born in Florence in 1973, Lorenzo CASTORE is one of the most brilliant photographers of his generation. Significant representative of the new documentary photography, he tells the world with a particular sensitivity and an original language. Author of numerous books and exhibitions, he is represented in Paris by the Folia gallery. During his residency, he would like to explore Deauville from the inside by following closely some symbolic characters, such as a young couple, operators of the horse world, etc.

After growing up in Rome, Lorenzo Castore lived in New York working for Bob Seligman's production company and it was there that he began to practice street photography. Back in Rome, he studied law and continued to photograph. Travels to India were an important step in his career as was the discovery of Josef Koudelka's Exiles exhibition. Since then, through his numerous travels from Kosovo to Cuba via Poland, he has developed a deep interest in committed subjects and a particular look capable of using both color and black and white to translate real situations and subjective perceptions. In the early 2000s, Lorenzo Castore joined the VU' Agency/Galerie in Paris, he began to exhibit, publish and win awards regularly. Among his many books Nero, Paradiso, Ewa and Piotr, Ultimo Domicilio and Present Tense. In 2018, the Festival Images Vevey in Switzerland dedicates him an important exhibition and he participates in two collective 100 years of Leica in Rome and Eyes Wild Open in Brussels.

THÉO & SALOMÉ
Lorenzo Castore's project for Deauville consisted in spending two weeks in symbiosis with two young lovers, eighteen years old, who live between Caen and Trouville, living by their side every moment of their day to tell their reality in a direct and uninterrupted way, in a limited but absolute time. Théo and Salomé, at the center of the project, are two "normal and ordinary" young people, in the best sense of the word. They live their lives together and together they try to project themselves into a possible future.
Lorenzo Castore writes: "I hope to succeed in making a work open to the future, against the cynicism and the lack of perspective of many young people today. I would like this peripheral normality to inspire potentiality and dreams, managing to transform the banal into exceptional".
His work is realized in black and white and in color, accompanied by short Super8 films. Theo and Salomé contributed with texts.
