Jerome GARCIN

Journalist, writer, President of the jury of the Books & Music Festival

In Normandy, the rider and the writer are one

Normandy is a land familiar to Jérôme Garcin. A great-grandfather from Rouen gave him his Norman roots. The summers of his childhood, in the Bessin, on the beach of Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, trod and dug the sand still riddled with vestiges of that year 44 when it had been renamed: Omaha Beach. At the start of the 1980s, he got to know the Mediterranean beaches, from the Ramatuelle house acquired by Gérard Philipe, the too soon lost father of Anne-Marie Philipe his wife. In the early 1990s, he returned to Normandy, on the desire of Anne-Marie Philipe, to rediscover the expanses and the lights of the great Belgian beaches of his youth. It was first in Trouville, then in the Pays d'Auge, that Jérôme Garcin also revived with the horse, a passion that gave him the taste to write for himself. For the one who was a journalist at 19 and a writer, in 1992, at the age of 36: "It took me Normandy and the horse to write late." Since then, in Normandy, the rider and the writer have become one.

For the host-producer of Masque et la Plume, tasting Deauville also means sharing its cultural offer and the city's historical relationship with horses. These two passions mingle in the evening, in April and August, during concerts at the two classical music festivals in Deauville. In the ideal acoustics of the Elie de Brignac room, devoted to horse sales, where the musicians make the hair of their bows sing. Since 2004, a Book Fair, which has become a 3-day literary festival, brings together and celebrates every year in May, writers who have a relationship with music. On this occasion, a "Books & Music of Deauville" prize is awarded each year by a jury of writers and musicians chaired by Jérôme Garcin.
