HISTORY :
An architectural gem, the Villa Strassburger is the symbol of Deauville in the Belle Époque. Located near the racetrack, it was built for Baron Henri de Rothschild in 1907, on the grounds of Flaubert. It was bought in 1924 by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, a rich American newspaper publisher.
With its wood panelling, chequered brickwork and roofs, this villa is emblematic of Norman regionalism.
The picturesque exterior is contrasted with the simplicity of the interior volumes. On the ground floor, a central hall distributes the smoking room, living room, dining room and study. A grand staircase leads to the private apartments and serves the bedrooms on the second floor reserved for guests.
Exceptionally, the villa has kept its period furniture, its knick-knacks, its family portraits, its paintings of horses. Everything has remained in place since 1980, when the Strassburger family bequeathed the Villa to the City of Deauville. It has been listed as a historical monument since 1975.
