Actor, film director

The new wave movement’s favorite actor turned to directing in 1970. Les Amis was his first feature film. From Paris to Deauville, between the Normandy Hotel, the new Olympic swimming pool, the tennis fields and the Ciro’s restaurant, Gérard Blain (1930-2000) tactfully filmed the friendship between an old man and a young boy of modest background. The film was one of the three officially selected movies of the Festival de Cannes in1971. It was awarded by a Léopard d’Or at the Locarno Festival in 1972.
