Between men and the sea

Born in 1980 in N'Djamena, Chad, Abdoulaye Barry became passionate about photography in 1996, the year in which his uncle gave him the most beautiful gift: a camera. Since that time, Abdoulaye Barry has produced numerous reports for ceremonies: baptisms, weddings, funerals ... He then had the chance to benefit from training during photography workshops in Africa and Europe, which gave him a new opening and a turn to its course.
Today, he collaborates with NGOs, international newspapers and magazines, such as Jeune Afrique, Afrique Magazine, Africa 24 Magazine etc. Over the past five years, he has focused on his personal work and has produced several series, including Enfants de rue à N'Djamena having won the Jury Prize at the African biennial of photography, Les Rencontres de Bamako in Mali.
His work strives to instill a citizen dynamic, inviting to look at certain social phenomena in a different way. It also tries to make people want to meet the men and women who - in their living environment and in the battles they wage with the means which are theirs - remind us that there is no inevitability, that we can get out of bad situations and build a better future.
In Deauville, he focused his attention on the links that men maintain with the sea, he who comes from a Sahelian country devoid of any access to the sea.
