Come and discover the Calvados coast and the Baie de Seine aboard the François Monique, a 1935 shellfish sloop moored in the port of Deauville. You can even take part in the maneuvers if you feel like it!

The François Monique is a shellfish sloop from Brest harbor, built at Chantier du Fret by Auguste Tertu. She was launched on September 16, 1935. It was built on behalf of Hervé Salaün, a fisherman from Logona Daoulas, to fish for scallops, harvest maerl (calcareous sand for land improvement) and red seaweed to fertilize the fields.

The origin of the boat's baptismal name is :
1. François, the name of the boat's godfather, François Kermarrec, the first sailor on board.
2. Monique, niece of Hervé Salaün

In 2008, the old rig was bought by Franck Brize and repatriated to Trouville-Deauville. In the same year, the Petit Foc association was formed and began restoring the boat to its former glory as a Brest harbor shellboat, with its original colors and rigging, and retracing its history.

The aim of the association is to preserve Normandy's maritime heritage and promote traditional sailing on the "François Monique". The boat takes part in numerous events at sea and in the ports of Calvados and beyond.
