Sem, pseudonym of Georges Goursat (1863-1934) is poster designer, caricaturist and social columnist, inseparable from Deauville. He frequented the station in 1912, at the invitation of Eugène Cornuché, who had previously entrusted him, in Paris, with the visual identity of the restaurant Maxim's.

From 1909, following the publication of his first album, Sem became the caricaturist who counts. A reputation which will be reinforced by the creation and the publication, in limited series, of about twenty albums. Being caricatured by Sem became, in 1910, a criterion of success and fame. In the tradition of Toulouse Lautrec and Jules Chéret, close by his Cappiello style, Sem joined them in the field of posters and advertising illustration.

Member of the Salon des Humoristes, he works as a press cartoonist for Le Figaro, Le Rire et The Cry of Paris. Upstream from his highly anticipated album publications, which have now become collector's items, his caricatures are also reproduced in theIllustration.

Well introduced to high society, Sem accompanies him in his summer migrations, to Paris, Deauville and Monte-Carlo. He crunches his most famous figures, in cafes and theaters, the casino, the beach and the races. His stays, first in Trouville-sur-mer, then in Deauville, from 1912 inspired him several albums: Week at sea (1912) Tangoville-sur-Mer (1913) True and false chic (1914) The big world upside down (1919) Deauville by Sem

It was in Deauville that he spent his last summer, in 1934.
