Portraits and landscapes

David Armstrong has been a legend in contemporary American photography since the late 1980s, alongside his friend Nan Goldin and fellow photography greats Philipp Lorca-diCorcia. Armstrong, born in 1954, in Arlington, Massachusetts began to gain critical attention for his male portraits. In the 1990s, he began photographing cityscapes and landscapes in blur to create contrast with the resolution of his portraits. Street lights, illuminated signs and cars are reduced to a sensual blurry marbling, completing the liveliness of his portraits. His photographs have been shown in numerous group exhibitions, including at the Whitney Museum Biennale in 1995 (a benchmark for contemporary artists) and at the Kunsthalle Hamburg in 1998.
Author of several books, David Armstrong regularly collaborated with magazines such as Vogue Paris, Numéro, L'Uomo Vogue, Arena Homme +, GQ or Japanese Vogue, until his death, from liver cancer, on October 25. 2014 in Los Angeles.

In 2011, he was one of the guest photographers of Planche (s) Contact and was able to produce landscapes, atmospheres of the city and portraits of adolescents from Deauville.
