The Prix Rothschild, an amazing straight-line race!

This Group 1 race, the highest level of the competition, is reserved to mares aged 3 and over. It is a 1600-m race known as Mile, with emphasis on speed. It’s a spectacular race for the public as the pack runs at more than 60 km/h on the curb, a few centimetres away from the public!

LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest, a rare challenge between sprinters and milers

It’s one of the most awaited races of the Meeting de Deauville Lucien Barrière, as it is one of the few European races on 1,300 m: a middle distance. This original straight-line race is a good opportunity for sprinters, - specialized in a distance ranging between 1,000 to 1,200 m-, and milers - whose favourite distance is 1,600 m -, to have an interesting and rare challenge.

Two Group 1 races feature the Arab thoroughbred horses. The former is open to 3-year-old horses and the latter to horses aged 4 and over, that is to say confirmed horses. Arab thoroughbred horses are the ancestors of the most acclaimed horses in gallop races: English thoroughbred horses. In the 18th century, Eastern stallions were crossed with English brood mares, giving birth to English thoroughbred horses, known for being fast.

It’s also a 1,600-m straight line race and the highest-awarded competition of the Deauville Barrière Meeting. About 1 million Euros is shared among the 5 best competitors. The race is open to male and female horses from the age of 3. It may challenge young hopes and confirmed older horses. Champions come from all over Europe - sometimes even farther away - for this race. It’s one of the most spectacular races of the Meeting!

This straight-line race takes place on a short distance of 1,200 m. Competitors reach the finish line at over 60 km/h. The young champions have less than one minute to make a difference!

The Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville, a competition leading to another one
The last weekend of August
 
This race labelled Group 2 is reserved to English thoroughbred horses aged 3 and over. It is a 2,500-m race: the competitors must show speed and resistance. The winner often decides to participate in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the greatest race in the world organized in October at the Paris Longchamp racecourse.
