DEAUVILLE Centre International de Deauville > September 1 to 10, 2023

49th DEAUVILLE AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

The Festival, which is open to the public, promotes encounters between film professionals and enthusiasts of the seventh art by making the most of the diversity of American films, from Hollywood productions to independent cinema.. Each year, some sixty screenings are presented.

Since its creation in 1975, the Deauville American Film Festival has been the must-attend event of the fall film season. Official competitions for independent films, tributes, documentaries, premieres and screenings punctuate an ever-evolving festival. It is the only European festival of this scale to open its doors to the public.

THE COMPETITION - the artistic vision of independent cinema as a truth about the world. To discover and support new talent. Guillaume Canet is president of the jury, and Mélanie Thierry of this 49th edition.
PREMIERES - authors and directors of today's cinema meet the public
UNCLE SAM'S DOCS - get to know American society better through documentaries, which bear witness to their time and era.
THE TRIBUTES - the pleasure of American cinema in its myths and legends, and the celebration of talent.
THE NEW HOLLYWOOD - honoring the future by inviting to the Festival an actor who is the jewel in the crown of American cinema. This year, the award will be presented to Emilia Clarke in her presence.
WINDOW ON FRENCH CINEMA - previews of french films
L'HEURE DE LA CROISETTE - Cannes selection entirely devoted to this year's Cannes Film Festival awards.
THE DEAUVILLE TALENT AWARDS - reward the most outstanding personalities in American cinema. Their names are inscribed on the lices des Planches.
Last minute: the festival supports the actors' rally to the writers' strike, even though it is suffering the consequences. Peter Dinklage and Natalie Portman have cancelled their appearances, as have Jude Law and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who were due to pay tribute. However, despite these cancellations, the program and ceremonies in their honor have been maintained. The essential thing remains the films themselves, which the public will be able to discover and meet the directors, the majority of whom will be present, including Todd Haynes, Rebecca Miller, Sophie Barthes...; 24 directors, including 12 in competition, will walk the Deauville red carpet; Jerry Schatzberg, to whom Guillaume Canet will pay tribute.

The prizes are awarded at the Awards Ceremony:
Grand Prix & Jury Prize
The Louis Roederer Foundation Revelation Prize
The Critics' Prize, awarded by critics and journalists
